When life gives you a yard full of dandelions...

make dandelion wine! I haven't tried this before. I have made mead - which turned out pretty nice. I made a batch of wine from apple juice once but messed it up and ended up with a syrupy mess more akin to something you'd take for a bad cough. There was also a batch of wine from grape juice which turned out not bad at all. I'm eagerly waiting to since how this batch turns out.

One of these days I would like to try my hand at brewing up a batch of beer. Something small like those Mr. Beer kits to start.

We're pretty much settled into the new place. Chasing down leads in Charlotte and making the 40 minute commute to my part-time job back in Hickory in the mean time. At least the drive is a decent one - not much traffic and only three stoplights the whole way.

Take care,
Mark

Hickory is about 72 miles from where we scattered my dads ashes in '99. We did that at a favorite place of his called Jump Off Rock. 35°19'0.65"N 82°31'0.13"W are about the coordinates of the overlook site (I am quite into Google Earth and maps). Quite a popular overlook in the smokies. Maybe one of you have been there already. Hard to believe it is almost 10 years ago. I sure miss him.

Hey Mark, be careful,I use dandeliion root and leaf extract for medicinal purposes - its a natural diuretic. I use it to lower the pressure in my ears to avoid vertigo spells. Its makes me empty my bladder about once an hour for two days. Sure does do its job! I suppose you can ferment just about anything into a wine or tea. We used to make spruce needle tea and salmon berry wine in Alaska - well I never actually MADE the wine, but I sure drank some. Cheers
